I got started working with pets 8 years ago, when my mom and I volunteered to foster animals for Hopalong. It was immediately obvious to me that pet work was meaningful, fulfilling, and, best of all, fun. Working with Billie Jo at Walk-In The Dog has more than confirmed that original insight. I love my work. Even on tough days, when none of our little friends want to get with the program, I can still see that their hearts are in the right place and their intentions are good. I feel that I really understand them; their energy resonates well with mine. What more could you want from an occupation?

As I mentioned, I’ve volunteered for Hopalong Animal Rescue. I’ve also worked for Smiley Dog, Home at Last Animal Rescue, the East Bay Humane Society, and I have a training certificate from Animal Behavior College. At Walk-In The Dog, I oversee contract employees, manage the administration of medications, house-sit, and train. I bring a lot to this job, and I get a lot from it.

I am a native son of the East Bay Area. My family always included several animals including: dogs, cats, reptiles, exotic fish, rabbits, ferrets and more. I remember even as a child, my gift for befriending animals has always been genuinely natural. My enthusiasm for the outdoors and the natural world led me to work for the National Forest Service briefly before entering the natural food industry. There I learned about proper nutrition for people as well as our pets.

It was at this time I met Billie Jo. Over the years I have given support to Walk-N the Dog and when the opportunity came to join the team, I gladly came aboard. I’ve recently attended the Dog-Walking Academy and am certified in pet CPR. The joy of my job now is the fact that I am working in the parks with dogs. The reward is watching them learn, play and bond with each other and myself. The satisfaction comes with every walk, the happiness, trust and love that only a dog can give is ultimately, an experience of a lifetime that I get to enjoy every day.
